The Association of Educators for Interrelated Research and Studies, Inc. (AEIRSI) based in Teachers’ Camp, Baguio City, hosted national campus journalism seminar-workshop and sponsored by DepEd with focus on “governance” last September 30 to October 2, 2010. “The School Governance in the 21st Century: A Catalyst for a Social Change” was the theme AEIRSI proposed to DepEd, in line with its thrust to develop within the different members of the school community that have utterly needed social change and good governance.
Gathering students involved in student publications of the different public and private secondary schools, colleges and universities in all the key cities and towns in the Philippines, the workshop featured various topics handled by experienced communication professionals: Keynote Speaker Dr. Gina O. Gonong on “ The Mass Media and the School Newspaper” (Speech and Theater Arts Unit, Department of Humanities, Philippine Normal University, Manila); Legal Speaker on “Investigative Journalism and the Pros and Cons of Campus Journalism with Legal Constraints” (Director, Office of Public Affairs and Information, Tarlac State University, Tarlac City); Prof. Apolinario S. Saymo on “The School Paper Governance in the 21st Century: A Catalyst for Social Change” (AEIRSI Seminar Director); and other prominent speakers in broadcast and print media who also shared their insights into school paper governance in the 21st century.

With inquisitive minds and eager spirits, school paper adviser Dr. Ermetes F. Adolfo Jr, and editor in chief Carlo B. Galicia of The Access attended the National Seminar-Workshop on Campus Journalism held at the Baguio Teachers’ Camp.
As the delegates of the Cebu Province Division, they joined with more than 500 participants from different parts of the country for a lecture on the theme ”The School Governance in the 21st Century: A Catalyst for a Social Change.”
Talks and activities on subjects like The Mass Media and the School Paper and on Investigative Journalism were featured on the 3-day event.
The event is said to develop the skills and knowhow of advisers and student-editors in managing the school publication and to encourage the advocacy of Campus Journalism in the formation of a better society.
in other words, this activity provides good and newly fresh ideas or insights for the school publications.
